Separate discovery from booking
Google’s guidance explains how AI Overviews and AI Mode can surface links to websites. Being included in a discovery experience does not itself establish a completed booking. A hotel needs to measure visibility, referrals and revenue as separate stages. Google Search Central • AI features and your website
Our interpretation: prepare for more complex discovery journeys while protecting channels that already produce valuable stays. A hotel appearing in an AI answer, receiving a referral and completing a booking are three different outcomes. They need separate evidence.

Build answers from property facts
Google states that its AI search features do not require special schema or a separate AI file. Start with accessible, indexable pages and accurate property information. Search Console includes AI feature traffic within overall Web reporting, so avoid presenting its totals as a dedicated AI attribution report.
| Focus | Record | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| Room suitability | Occupancy, bed types, accessibility and actual amenities | Answer specific guest questions using verified information |
| Booking conditions | Deposit, cancellation, check in and included services | Keep website, booking engine and business listings consistent |
| Technical eligibility | Indexing, crawl access, canonical and visible content | Use URL Inspection and validate structured data against the page |
Apply this to your next project
- Do not promise inclusion in an AI answer or a ranking position.
- Publish material facts as text rather than only inside images.
- Assign an owner to update rates, policies and seasonal services.
Write for the actual travel decision
Replace vague luxury language with verifiable answers: room layout, distance and access, opening periods, family suitability, accessibility, transfer arrangements and the exact inclusions of a rate. Distinguish permanent amenities from seasonal services. Put the information on the relevant room, experience or policy page.
A traveller comparing a quiet coastal stay with a city base needs the trade offs. Explain who the property suits and why. If a restaurant closes on certain days or a beach service is operated separately, say so. This level of detail improves human decision making even when no AI system refers a visitor.
Keep the technical claims proportionate
Google states that its AI Search features require no special AI markup beyond the relevant Search eligibility requirements. Inclusion is not guaranteed. Its guidance also says AI feature traffic is included in the Web performance reporting in Search Console. Google Search Central • AI features and your website
The practical work is to keep important pages accessible and indexable where intended, make essential facts available as text, align structured data with visible content and maintain consistent business details. A bespoke “AI visibility score” is only useful if its method, sampled prompts, markets and dates are disclosed. It is not a verified measure of market share.
Start with an information audit
Choose ten questions that reservations teams repeatedly answer. Check the website, booking engine and relevant business listings against one approved property fact sheet. Assign an owner and review date to each disputed or changing fact.
Then observe discoverability and referral quality over time. Record the conditions of any AI answer spot checks and keep them separate from conversion reporting. The first deliverable should be a more accurate, persuasive hotel website. Emerging discovery channels make that asset more important, not less.
