AI Max for hotels: more reach needs a better brief.

Automation can widen a hotel’s reach. The harder question is whether it brings the bookings the business needs. Start with the room, the guest and the stay dates, then decide what to test.

What has actually changed

Google’s 23 September announcement expands the closed beta of AI Brief to seven additional languages and previews reporting that connects search terms, creative and landing pages. Further availability details are due later in the year. Greek is not among the additional languages named. Google Ads • 23 September 2026

The practical implication is conditional: check access in the account before building a delivery commitment around a new feature. AI Max for Search and hotel specific advertising products are different tools. Neither a launch announcement nor a vendor performance average establishes what will work for a particular property.

One9Six / Working notes

Before expanding automated search

Treat account availability, language support and destination controls as separate checks. An announced feature is not proof that it is enabled in your account. Keep a dated settings record so a performance change can be traced to a specific configuration.

Apply this to your next project

  • Change one material variable per test when feasible.
  • Check Greek support for each feature rather than assuming support across the product.
  • Set an agreed spend limit and review date before activation.

Give automation a commercial boundary

Start with the stay dates that need demand, available room categories, source markets and minimum acceptable contribution. An October city break and a July family stay should not inherit the same proposition merely because they share a website. Identify which offers can absorb acquisition cost and which dates already sell without additional support.

Then approve the eligible landing pages and factual claims. A sea view room, airport transfer or spa access must mean exactly what the booking path delivers. Exclude obsolete offers, unsupported amenities and pages that cannot complete the intended journey. Treat language review as part of campaign quality, especially when a Greek property sells into several markets.

Test a decision, not a collection of changes

Google’s August update announced broader Search experiment options, including tests retaining brand or location controls. Verify the specific experiment available before selecting the design. Google Ads • 20 August 2026

Our starting point is one decision: does the new configuration produce additional, commercially acceptable bookings? Keep the offer, measurement and inventory policy consistent between comparable groups. Predefine the budget at risk, evaluation period, conversion delay and minimum effect worth acting on. A simultaneous price cut and campaign expansion will not isolate the contribution of automation.

Scale what the evidence supports

Review search intent and the full booking journey alongside cost and attributed revenue. Separate brand demand from new discovery. Check cancellations, room mix and the stay dates being filled. An increase concentrated on dates that were already likely to sell out deserves a different interpretation from new demand in a weak period.

The next move is a controlled pilot with a written decision rule. Expand when the result is commercially meaningful and sufficiently reliable. If the sample is small or the measurement breaks, record the result as inconclusive and repair the limiting factor.
